Help !! --- Cue Ball Markings ?
(too old to reply)

My group is always coming to me with off the wall questions regarding pocket
pool, equipment used with the game, its history, traditions, and bizarre
characters.

Today I was asked; "Why do they put that red circle on the cue ball???"

I quickly replied; "For the same reason that they put the blue or black dot
on the cue ball."

But alas, that answer did not satisfy them for long and they came
back---------- I told them I was too busy to give them a full explanation
and would have to reply to them tomorrow.

So------- do any of you "pro's" know the reason that most, if not all, cue
balls (pocket pool not billiards) have some sort of marking; either a dot,
star, circle, etc . on them ?????????

Manufacturer?
A mark left in the manufacturing process?
Patent indicator?
Material used?

Any answer or suggestion (even from the Fast Lawrence) will be duly
considered and appreciated.

That could well be. I know a guy whose trying to promote a new set of
games using 36 balls of eight different colors. His cue ball has a
tiny/black spread eagle. A remarkable set of balls indeed; especially the
cue ball. Made in China and very high quality. I've been using several
sets (regular 15 balls)for several months. In weight and size (and color
and material) I've found Chinese balls be just as good, if not better, than
the famed Arimiths of Belgium.
